President’s Quarterly Update for AMPAA – Q2 & Q3

The President of African Mining Professionals Association of Australia, Benjamin Osei Akoto has updated AMPAA members about the association’s activities through the second and third quarters of 2023. In a message sent to all members, Mr. Osei Akoto recalled activities such as the membership engagement survey, personal development conversations as well as the association’s flagship annual symposium in August 2023. The update concluded with plans for the final quarter of the year.

Below is the President’s message to AMPAA members:

Dear Members,
I trust this update reaches you in good spirits. As we approach the end of the calendar year, it’s time once again to reflect on our collective efforts in the past two quarters, celebrate the milestones we’ve achieved, and eagerly anticipate the engagements that Q4 promises.

Activities Highlights from Q2 & Q3.
Boat Cruise (8th April): It was a delightful way to connect in an informal setting. The boat cruise was not just a serene voyage, but a journey filled with laughter, insights, and strengthened bonds. The overwhelmingly positive feedback is a testament to the organising committee’s meticulous planning. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined and made this event memorable.

Membership Engagement Survey (14th April): A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in the survey. As an executive committee, we believe every member’s voice and perspective enrich our collective journey and the survey objective was to gauge member satisfaction, to identify potential areas for improvement, and to chart a roadmap that resonates deeply with our member base. Preliminary insights suggest an overwhelming desire for interactive sessions and better engagement with members, both of which are under active consideration. The feedback is invaluable in guiding our future activities and ensuring that AMPAA remains relevant and valuable to all members. We will ensure we tailor future engagements to resonate with member expectations.

Personal and Professional Development Talk (27th May): Peter Young’s presentation on habits, their profound impact on personal and professional spheres, and their transformative potential was nothing short of enlightening. A sincere note of gratitude to Peter for sharing such invaluable insights.

AMPAA Symposium 2023 (5th August): Undoubtedly a flagship event, this year’s symposium
at the Pan Pacific Hotel in Perth was a resounding success. With the theme, “Unearthing the Future,” we not only discussed the innovations reshaping mining but also the sustainable strategies to ensure its longevity. Keynote addresses and the panel discussions provided a 360-degree perspective on the theme. The distinguished speakers, spanning from academia to industry experts, enriched the discourse, and we remain indebted to their contributions.

Africa Down Under Conference Participation (4-6 September): A testament to AMPAA’s growing stature, our significant presence at the ADU conference was highly commended by the event organisers, Paydirt media. The discussions around Africa’s critical minerals unveiled future possibilities and collaborative opportunities between Africa and Australia. AMPAA’s commitment towards these collaborative ventures was evident in our engagements and the relationships nurtured during the event.

Upcoming Q4 Activities

AGM (4th November): Beyond being a statutory requirement, Our AGM presents a forum where every voice counts and every opinion matters. It offers each member an avenue to contribute, shape, and refine our objectives for the future. Your participation is imperative as we shape the course for the coming year.

End of Year Dinner (16th December): As we wrap up 2023, join us for an evening of celebration, reflection, and looking ahead to 2024. The evening promises to be very entertaining with good Africa cuisine and music. I encourage all members to be present and extend the invitation to friends and loved ones as this program is open to non-members as well. Lastly, as we gear up for the final quarter and the exciting engagements it promises, we humbly appeal to all members to settle their membership subscriptions for this financial year. Your timely contributions are pivotal in enabling AMPAA to consistently deliver quality programs and further our noble objectives. Let’s come together, as always, to ensure the continuity of our beloved AMPAA.

Thank you for your unwavering commitment to the African Mining Professionals Association of Australia.
