The African Mining Professionals Association of Australia (AMPAA) had a strong presence at the 2023 Africa Down Under (ADU) conference in Perth. The conference is the leading forum for Africa-Australia business relations, and AMPAA members used the opportunity to reconnect with mining professionals from across the continent, network with new contacts, and learn about the latest trends in the mining industry.

AMPAA President, Benjamin Osei-Akoto, thanked members for their participation and contribution to the conference. He said, “I want to thank the team for the good work done during the 2023 ADU, especially Wamunyina Mahalihali⁩ for her excellent chairing of a session.”

In addition to reconnecting with old colleagues and meeting new contacts, AMPAA members also used the ADU conference to learn about the latest trends in the mining industry. Osei-Akoto said, “There is a scramble for Africa’s critical minerals and African governments are exploring capabilities to build and understand markets as well as negotiate deals.” He added, “I think we need to challenge ourselves as Africans and invest, generate capital, be shareholders and then we can shape the agenda of the industry.”

Bill Repard of Paydirt, the organizer of the ADU conference, expressed appreciation for the impressive participation of AMPAA members. He said, “The ADU conference is a key event for the African mining industry, and AMPAA’s participation is a testament to the importance of the relationship between Australia and Africa.”

The ADU conference was a valuable opportunity for AMPAA members to network with mining professionals from across Africa and Australia, learn about the latest trends in the industry, and discuss ways to promote cooperation and collaboration between the two continents. The association is committed to continuing to build strong relationships with its members and partners, and the ADU conference was a significant step in that direction.
